Fascial Stretch Therapy FAQ's

Why Do We Need Fascial Stretch Therapy?

The human body is an amazing machine. It's designed to be self-regulating and it's extremely efficient at healing itself. But the body is not designed to deal with the factors of modern life: driving cars, texting, talking on the phone, staring at screens, sitting in cars, typing on keyboards. On top of that, we're hard on our bodies. We push our physical and mental limits every week. We carry all kinds of tightness, imbalances, stress, and issues. And they only get worse unless we intentionally and consistently treat them. Which we don't, right? A very small percentage of us actually stretch when we need to and feel "good" most days. Fascial Stretch Therapy is a super proactive and effective measure you can take to protect your body against the damaging effects of our many lifestyle stressors, ensuring that it stays strong and resilient. We need Stretch Therapy because it's way better than what we're currently doing.

What is Fascia?

Fascia is the spider web-like connective tissue found in, around, and between the joints, muscles, and ligaments, and it is the most prevalent tissue in the body. You can think of it like a sausage casing around your muscles. The health and function of your muscles, joints, arteries, veins, brain, and spinal cord are all a direct result of the condition of your fascia. FST® helps to "unwind," or loosen fascia, which is full of nerves, reducing pressure between joints, and the pain associated with it, while releasing joint-lubricating synovial fluid that improves the flexibility of muscles. When stretching the right way, one must target not just the muscles but also the fascia and joints for an authentic 3-D approach.

How is Fascial Stretch Therapy Different from Yoga or Traditional Stretching?

Yoga is an excellent form of movement, relaxation, and so much more. Fascial Stretch Therapy is not to be done in place of Yoga, it should be done in tandem with programs like that. Traditional Stretching typically misses the mark and only produces a tiny bit of desired results. Fascial Stretch Therapy is primarily different because it's an assisted process, where you as the client simply lay on the table and let the Stretch Therapist do the work (passive stretching). Because you generally have an extremity strapped down to the table, we're able to get extra leverage to produce more ideal and calculated movements. We also use several unique techniques and processes such as PNF stretching and joint traction. Once you have your first session, you'll quickly realize just how different this is!

Stretch Therapy is incredible because it's extremely beneficial for so many people! It's also very adaptable and customized so it reaches a huge variety of people. Whether you're an athlete or plumber, younger or older, smaller or bigger, Stretch Therapy can absolutely change your life.

How Often Should I Get Stretched?

The answer to this totally depends on your needs and lifestyle but we recommend consistency first and foremost. We see the best results when we see new clients once or twice a week for the first 3-4 weeks and then 3-4 more sessions coming in every other week. A lot of change happens during this initial process so we try to be patient and not force anything. There's no point in coming once and then not coming back for 12 weeks, all of your progress will be gone. Plus, it takes a session or two for most people to fully relax and feel comfortable enough.

After the initial starting process, here are our general recommendations:

  • 1-2 times per month: Occasionally getting a deep stretch to reduce stress, stretch deeper than you can on your own, help improve your recovery and other specific goals. Excellent maintenance.

  • 1 time per week: Improve flexibility quicker, highlight more specific issues, and better focus on performance.

  • 2 times per week: Phenomenal flexibility improvements, drastically improve posture, high-end performance, and peak results all around.

Will Fascial Stretch Therapy Hurt?

Definitely not! Fascial Stretch Therapy is a pain-free, relaxing, easy and convenient form of bodywork. Clients stay fully-clothed and relaxed as the trained clinician performs the manual assisted stretching techniques tailored to your specific needs. There is no use of massage oils or creams. Clients will leave their session feeling renewed, relaxed and mobile.

Recovery Boots FAQ's

How Do Recovery Boots Work?

During a session, you'll sit in one of our comfortable reclining chairs and we'll get your legs zipped into the boots. Depending on your needs, we'll set you up with a specific program and get started. The unit will pump compressed air into the 4 different chambers in the boots, with pressure varying depending on program choice. They will inflate and deflate in different patterns and then once program is complete, the boots will deflate and you can simply unzip to exit.

How Long Do Sessions Last?

Session options are 15 minutes, 30 minutes, and 50 minutes. We recommend starting with 15 minutes and seeing how your body feels and responds. For serious athletes and high-level recovery, 30 minutes is more ideal.

What Does a Session Feel Like?

Using compressed air to massage your legs, mobilize fluid, and speed up recovery, these boots feel like a deep, relaxing pressure on your legs. Initially feeling like a blood pressure cuff wrapped around your leg, the boots inflate and relax in programmed segments to mimic the natural muscle pump of the body to help improve blood circulation, flush out waste products and enhance lymphatic drainage.

When Should I Do a Session?

A Recovery Boot session is ideal right after a workout, race, or event, especially after a long, arduous one. However, you can use the boots after a long day, anytime your legs are feeling sore, or whenever you want to feel revived! Use before a workout or event is possible too. You could use them every day if you really want or need to. Another important thing to remember is that while Recovery Boots can help with recovery after one use, helping your body recover is an investment of time and requires consistency. In other words, make a habit of using them! Also, remember to eat well and get enough sleep. Dynamic compression is an important part of recovery, but it’s not the only part!
